David Smith, a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, Missouri, Nebraska, Wyoming and Alberta Canada, has been practicing as a structural engineer in the Metro Washington, DC area since 1998. Dave is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering Degree (Structures Option) and joined Holbert Apple Associates in 2005 as a Project Manager. Dave was promoted to Principal in January 2011.
Dave’s diverse experience ranges from small consulting tasks to large projects with construction budgets exceeding $100 million. His experience includes the the Yale Steam Laundry Condominiums and Apartments in Washington, DC; Steptoe & Johnson Office Building in Clarksburg, WV; TownePlace Suites Hotel and Fairfield Inn Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta Canada; Homewood Suites Hotel, 501 New York Avenue, NE, Washington, DC; AC Marriott Hotel, Philadelphia, PA; Multi-Family Residential Building, Silver Spring, MD; and, multiple permit peer reviews for Prince George’s County, MD.
Dave was also instrumental in leading Holbert Apple Associates’ implementation of BIM modeling capabilities and continues to meet client demands by staying abreast of the latest technologies used in the design of structures today.
Dave is currently the Chair of the Structural Engineering Association of Metropolitan Washington, which which he has been active for several years. He is also active in the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute, and American Institute of Steel Construction.
