New York Avenue, NW, Washington DC
Structural engineering services for two new 12-story residential buildings on the site of the original Yale Steam Laundry Building located in the 400 block of New York Avenue. The new buildings are 185,000 sq. ft. and 285,000 sq. ft., each with three levels of underground parking. The new structures are post-tensioned, cast-in-place concrete structures utilizing concrete shear walls for lateral resistance, and both are supported on ground improvement systems.
The existing historic laundry building has been renovated for reuse as an apartment building, including a new elevator and stairs within the building and a new pool and sundeck on the roof.
